This event is an opportunity for our UCSI prominent alumni to provide an open lecture to our students and alumni members. This series will provide encouragement, motivation and counsel on how to enhance life and career goals, things that you may not learn from the classroom.

 

Notable Alumni Sharing Session:

Designing Sustainable Futures: A Journey of Architectural and Health-Centric Design by Ar Ts IDr Rien Tan Kwon Chong, 2 November 2023.

Ar Ts IDr Rien Tan Kwon Chong is from Pontian. Rien is the Founder and Director of TKC Architect, the architecture firm that was established during the pandemic in July 2020. At the beginning, Rien started the business in a home office with only one project on hand. Today, his firm has a group of young architects from 3 to 10 within 2 years and they are managing several projects in Klang Valley, Johor and Perlis. In the sharing session, Rien shared the 4 basic things in order to make someone stands out which are design, skills, networking and experience. Each of these play a n important role in his architecture career. Besides the 4 basic things, Rien even goes beyond by joining various Design competitions or challenges, community projects, do internship or freelance, learning new software and travel to different countries.

Notable Alumni Sharing Session CEO Series 3:
A glimpse into Entrepreneurship: Drive-Thru Food Chain Industry in Malaysia by Ms Betty Ting, 12 October 2023
Ms Betty Ting, the Founder of Kejap Food Sdn Bhd gave the participants an inspiring sharing session on her entrepreneurial journey and introduced KejapFood’s business model, especially the transformation from car wash outlets and shipping containers into a Drive-Thru which mostly located at Petrol Stations. KejapFood is a fast food restaurant committed to provide affordable, convenient and locally-inspired food that delights their customers. In June 2023, Betty and her team had successfully funded 5 million in a crowd funding platform which allows KejapFood to expand their reach in a bigger market.

Notable Alumni Sharing Session CEO Series 3:

A glimpse into Entrepreneurship: Drive-Thru Food Chain Industry in Malaysia by Ms Lim Chui Venn, 12 October 2023

Ms Lim Chui Venn, the Founder of Ahma Kopi and Co-Founder, Anson Sport Centre gave the participants an inspiring sharing session on her entrepreneurial journey, from how she started AHMA KOPI, identified the take-away problems and resolve it a new packaging design for local kopi. AHMA KOPI is the first drive thru Kopi in Teluk Intan which attracts many customers from Teluk Intan and other states to visit the drive thru café. In the session, Chui Venn also shared the F&B Starter Pack which students find it helpful and informative.

Notable Alumni Sharing Session CEO Series 2: 

How to Stand Out In Art, Media and Design? by Ms Sammy Chong, 18 August 2023

Ms Sammy Chong, the CEO and Founder of Celovis Malaysia gave the participants an inspiring sharing session on her entrepreneurial journey, especially the e-commerce and brand-building stories for Celovis Malaysia, Malaysia’s first Female Titanium Jewellery Brand. In the session, Ms Sammy also talked about how she started the business in her third-year Psychology programme with only RM200 and turns it into a 8 figures business. Recently, she has successfully launched a historical collaboration with Mattel on creating the first Barbie Jewellery collection in Malaysia by Celovis Jewellery.     

Notable Alumni Sharing Session CEO Series 1: 

Rethinking Digital Skills For A New Normal of Disruptions by Mr Kelvin Tai, 2 March 2023

Mr Kelvin is the Founder and CEO of Artmeet, a digital resources content provider. He was graduated with a Bachelor of Computer Science from UCSI University in 2020. In the forum session with Mr Jim Loo, Kelvin discussed about how Information Technology has hugely impacted the way companies and businesses are doing since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Rethinking Digital Skills For A New Normal of Disruptions by Mr Kelvin Tai, 2 March 2023

Ts Jim Loo is the CEO of JT Techtronics Sdn Bhd, an industrial LED And on Display System Manufacturer. He was graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical & Electronics from UCSI University in 2005. In the forum session with Mr Kelvin, Ts Jim Loo highlighted the importance of acquiring relevant skills and knowledge by graduates to stay competitive in the job market for certain industries.

Notable Alumni Sharing Session: 

How to Prevent Cancer from Young by Dr Jason Su, 1 June 2023

Dr Jason Su is a House Officer in Tuanku Muhriz UKM Chancellor’s Hospital. In the sharing session, Dr Jason has shared some insights and knowledge on cancer statistics in Malaysia. Also, the factors and stages of cancer disease and its prevention from young were areas that captured the attention of participants. This session has successfully raised awareness of cancer among university students, staff and alumni.

Prominent Alumni Lecture Series 9: 

Framing Opportunities Through Adversity by Ms Annice Lyn, 7th June 2018.

Ms. Annice Lyn is the first female photographer based in Malaysia to be accredited for the XXIII Olympic Winter Games, Pyeong Chang 2018. She is also a current Canon Malaysia EOS Youth Ambassador Candidate. In this series, Ms. Annice will share on hos photography changed her perspective and how architecture played a role in her photography journey, as well as searching for personal identity after graduation.

Prominent Alumni Lecture Series 8:

My Journey To Becoming A “Designpreneur” by Mr Kendrick Ng Tiong Heng, 22nd March 2018.

In holding different portfolio as a Chief Business Development Officer & Artist of Kendylife, Social Groove Solutions Sdn Bhd; a Secretary of Malaysian Infocomm Foundation; and a CEO & Founder of Kendy Life Creative, Mr. Kendrick has simultaneous experiences to share how to be a successful entrepreneur in the design industry.

 

Prominent Alumni Lecture Series 7:

New Career As A Postgraduate Scholar in South Korea by Ms Marion Leo, 8th February 2018.

Ms. Marion is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Business & Technology Management, in Korean Advanced Institute Of Science & Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, South Korea. She is delightfully to share about her career success, industrial insights for the engineers, and journey as a postgraduate scholar in KAIST.

Prominent Alumni Lecture Series 6: 

Why Research and Postgraduate Studies by Ms Khong Mei Li & Prof Chye Mee Len, 12th July 2017.

Ms. Khong is currently a PhD candidate in Biomedical Sciences, The University of Hong Kong (HKU). Together with her Dean of Graduate School, Prof Chye, they will share on the importance of Research and Postgraduate Education and the programmes available at HKU as well as how to choose a Postgraduate study.

 

Prominent Alumni Lecture Series 5:

Journey around the World in Science by Dr. Aloysius Wong, 19th June 2017.

Dr. Aloysius Wong is our prominent alumni from the Biology programme with First Class Honours and currently an Assistant Professor in Wenzhou-Kean University, China. He will be sharing his knowledge and experiences in the applied science research, focus on the inter-disciplinary of proteomics, genetics and molecular biology during his study and career in United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, France, and China.

Prominent Alumni Lecture Series 4:

Connecting Pharmacy and Public Health by Mr. Alvin Teo, 17th June 2017.

Our prominent Pharmacy alumni, Mr. Alvin Teo is currently a Research Associate in Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore. He will be sharing his vast experiences with Doctors Without Borders in six different countries, and how these experiences guided him into the public health context.

Prominent Alumni Lecture Series 3:

Discovering the Media Industry by Ms. Cynthia Ng, 26th May 2017.

Ms. Cynthia Ng May Li completed her Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Mass Communication with First Class Honours. She is an anchor, editor and journalist for Astro Awani, the country’s leading 24-hour news channel, covering national and international news stories. She also anchors Hari Ini 8, the channel’s prime time news program. Ms. Cynthia has tremendous experiences in issues ranging from politics to human rights and interviews of influential people such as the former Portugese president, Mr. Jorge Sampaio and the American business magnate and billionaire, Mr. Sheldon Adelson. She will be sharing knowledge and skills in broadcasting and the career in the media industry.

Inspiring Animation by Ms. Radiya Alam, 3rd March 2017.

Ms. Radiya is currently an Inspiring Creator of Baseliner Consulting Sdn. Bhd and graduated from the Bachelors of Creative Arts in 3D Animation programme. She will be sharing knowledge and skills in 3D character & creature animation and the career expectation in the wide world in animation.

Beyond the Alphabet “D” and “R” by Dr. Goh Aik Ping, 19th Nov 2016.

Dr. Goh is our prominent alumni from the Doctor of Medicine programme. He is a Doctor and Founder of Care Family Clinic, Author of 《医生,So What?》, Area Medical Officer for St John Ambulance, and Flying Doctor for Asia Medevac Services Johor Bahru. With over 5 years of experience in the medical field, Dr. Goh will be sharing with us his insights and most importantly “how to be a good doctor”.
